HELP!!! MY HAMSTER IS PEEING BLOOD?

okay, so about 2 months ago my 1 year old panda bear hamster (girl) started peeing blood. Her cage was really clean and she seemed in perfect heath. That lasted about 4 days and then she was fine.

Now she is peeing blood again, it's kind of pinky (not dark red) her cage is really clean, there is no bacteria growths in her cage. I feed her fruit and vegetables so she seems healthy, she does sleep allot but i think just because she is older. She doesn't seem to smell bad.

Is she having a hamster period again? Do hamsters get them that close together? What could it be and what should I do? Please help, she's really special and i am really worried about her.

Take her to the vet!



Hamsters do not have "periods" in that sense - blood is never a good sign.



Blood in urine is most likely to be a urinary or kidney infection, which will require antibiotics. Even if you can't see any other symptoms you must get this checked out and treated as the hamster is probably in some pain. If you have ever had cystitis yourself you will know how nasty it is.

I do not believe that female hamsters have periods, i hade a female and she never did. when it is period time they usually have a musky smell and a little bit of discharge but no blood.



Take her to the vet, it could be something but then again it could be nothing, safer to have her checked out.

I usually like to break up little pieces of doritos and feed them with it. The little triangular-shaped ones in particular are the best. These ones tend to cut the roof of their mouths often resulting in severe pain.

She could have bladder stones or a bladder infection... you should see about bringing her to your vet to get her checked out.
