I have 4 guineas and my cage gets really messy. I'm just using recycled newspaper for bedding that i buy at a store. And i go through it so fast! I saw that some people use blankets but I think that i would have to have a ton of blankets and have to be like constantly doing laundry. Is there an easy way to keep you cage clean?

yes, put hay on top of the bedding you buy (it helps the poo sink down below so they don't step in it and fling it all over). I have my own version of a C&C cage and have a 3ft x 1 ft area of cloroplast and then I have a tarp under the whole cage set up and ontop of that I have towels layed out (for absorbtion) and then I have a twin sheet on top. Once a day I take a spoon and scoop up all the little poops and then I wash the sheet and towels once a week. It works great.

Preparing to Clean Preparing to clean the guinea pig cage will only take a few minutes. Remove the food bowl(s), water bottle, toys, hay bin and any other removable items that can be washed. Empty the contents of the dry food bowls into the bottom of the guinea pig cage. Empty the water bottle into a sink. Discard any left over moist treats into a garbage. Place the accessories in a mop bucket filled with mild bleach water solution. You can also fill the kitchen sink, and let the plastic cage accessories soak there. Secure the Pet Remove the guinea pig from the cage. This is a good time for the children to give him some extra playtime inside a small animal playpen, a confined room or sitting on a chair or couch. Never leave the guinea pig unattended while cleaning his cage. If you are cleaning the cage, and are home alone, place an old towel in the bottom of a tall-sided cardboard box or plastic tote, and place the guinea pig inside. Do not put on a lid. Keep him near your cleaning area so you can check in on him every few minutes. Vacuum and Wipe Wheel the shop vac over to the guinea pigs cage. Make sure the shop vac is set for dry waste and has a filter installed. Turn on the vacuum and carefully go over the entire base of the guinea pig cage, sucking up all the bedding, waste, left over food and uneaten treats. Use a water-dampened cloth to wipe out the interior of the cage. Go back to the soaking accessories and rinse them well with clear water. Dry them and place them back into the cage. Fill the food bowl, hay bin and water bottle. Add hard chew treats, the guinea pig and you have a clean guinea pig cage.

I always put a thin layer of newspaper at the bottom so cleaning is easier and it adds to the absorbtion. I use Sun Seed Fresh World bedding (its a loosely-packed recycled newspaper/magazine bedding), then sprinkle some hay on top. The odor is almost none and the cage stays clean for a long time even with multiple piggies.

do use use any other bedding, like at least a week old newspaper to soak up some urine, PLAIN woodshavings and the bedding?

you must have a really huge cage, they have to have huge cages if your going to have a few:

as in 13 squared feet! thats allot of room

clean the cage out throughally replacing every piece of bedding in the cage every 4 days. every day scoop at soiled areas there are urine in, wear gloves and take some poop out daily. this should keep it cleaner.

i hope i helped

i just got rid of my guinea pig 2DAY b/c i couldnt handle tha mess.

a single guinea pig needs no less than a 3 ft cage, so multiple pigs need more. fleece blankets are popularly used in C&C cages, but i agree that washing tha blankets is 2 much trouble, plus i wouldnt want urine an feces in my washer.

Haha, I used to have the same problem, because they poop ALOT! xD

(And I only have 2!)

Every evening when ive just got them in from their playpen outside, I just keep them in a cat carryer for like 5 mins (I use it to take them from my room to the garden and back) and I have a dustpan and brush in my room, I sweep up the most pooey areas, and just replace it with fresh woodshavings, they only use 2 of the corners really, you dont have to pick up ALL the poo, just if they use a certain few places alot more than others, then clean those. then I give them food, and hay and stuff.

for the bedding, try and fluff it up as much as possible, and use hay with it, they like to lie in a bed of hay, with some soft bedding too.

Timothy or meadow hay is best (They arent brands, theyre type of hay)

I do that every few days,
