Yes - the shelves are plastic and have no holes for their feet to fall through, less likely to create bumblefoot (as some wired floor cages will).

The shelves are adjustable so you can change the layout of the cage, have 2 shelves in with a large bunker or 3 shelves with a hammock etc (by changing the layout of the cage you help keep away boredom in your rats).

The wheel is not a rodent safe wheel, but can easily be removed (most rats don't like wheels except for somewhere to sleep anyways.)

The wired part can be removed from the plastic bottom making cleaning the cage much easier. You can also use the top part as a play pen for the back yard etc (ie just have the grass as the bottom for supervised play outside, yet know they are safe from birds).

Once you've removed the wheel, it should have enough space for a small box (or tissue box) or igloo for hiding spots to sleep.

Looks like a good cage - just remember they still need outside (or free ranging) time - this can simply be riding on your shoulder for an hour or so whilst you go about your normal routine.

My daughter and I have 2 rats and we use the exact same cage!! The have plenty of room..they even run around and chase each other. Most of the time, they sleep together, but being sisters, they have their spats and this cage has enough room that they can sleep as far away as they want to. I would definitely suggest this cage for 2 rats. The only suggestion I have is to take out the wheel and either get a solid plastic wheel or do what I did and put a little wooden house in there. I would also watch them with the hammock..mine chew right through theirs the first day the had it!!!

Most cages for rodents are far too small, as you have rightly said in your query. Having had rats myself, I used two breeding cages for budgies, having adapted them for the 2 rats' use; they had more room in which to climb and plenty of space for branches to gnaw, etc. However, these days it would probably be easier to find something of the size used to either chipmunks or chinchillas, make sure you check they cannot chew through to the Great World outside! They are healthier and happier with large as possible play areas, and much more fun for the owners, too! All the best - handle them often though (giving them tasty treats) when you first have them, once they are settled in their new home, and they will be great pets. Ours were fantastic, great fun and just having little dogs, they were so tame. Have fun

That is a very nice cage for two rats! The rats should have a lot of fun in that cage!

That is a perfect sized cage for two rats, however I do not reccomend using that sort of wheel. Try a Silent Spinner instead, they sell those at Petsmart, too!

Yes, it's fine. Each rat requires no less than 2.5 cubic feet of space, so that cage will be properly comfortable and roomy with two rats.

Looks alright. Here's a like to a cage I got for my three small rats. It's the same cage the breeder I got my rats from has. It's great because they love running up and down the sides of it. =D
