I don't know if i should choose a plastic cage or a wired cage. Which one is better? I already know what type of food and treats. I know the bedding i should get and the other stuff. But I just need help on this question. Please tell me which one, or if there's a cage you would suggest for my hammie.

I would buy this cage for a hamster:

It's the right mix between wire & plastic. :)

I would actually start with an aquarium, the largest you can.

I used these when I was young, with an open wire topper.

Inside I set a small igloo, a runny wheel, and a cup of food. Through the top, I inserted a water bottle.

As soon as you trust your hamster, if you're happy with the aquarium, you can buy a topper which secure on the top with clips. It will reach down with a ramp and your hamster can climb up one or two levels, depending on the size.

This is much cheaper than the regular hamster cage.

If not, then there are wire cages at PetsMart which are one/two/three levels and the doors lock securely that come with a wheel and house. These are cheaper than the habitrail things, and harder to break.

Go To Wal-Mart && Get A $10 Glass Aquarium. I've Always Had Those && They Work Great. I Currently Own 43 Hamsters && Most Have 10 Gallon Aquariums For Cages. They're Probably The Easiest to Clean.

If I were you I would get a small wire cage to start with, and when you feel more confident about looking after your hamster/cleaning it out you might want to opt for a bigger one!

Hope this helps!

Good luck

This is the cage I have and my hamster LOVES it. I have a medium sized igloo, a silent wheel, and a big water bottle with Carefresh bedding and Pico (my ham) is VERY happy. Here is what it looks like. Only 40$ and it is bigger than it looks

We've always had this sort of cage for our hamster- It's always been great.

NOTE: If you do end up getting this sort of cage be extremely careful if you put all the little plastic tubes on it- they have a reputation of breaking if they aren't connected perfectly- we've had a hamster escape from one breaking.

For syrian hamsters, you can use either type.

For dwarves, you'll need a glass tank.

Which ever one you choose, make sure the lid/door

is secure. Sometimes the cage seems great til you

try to open and close the door.
