He is just adjusting to his new environment around him. Give him some time and be sure that you have no dogs or cats and play with him frequently. If you notice that it is cold or too hot, you should take him to a vet and if he has been nibbling on platic or other material that he shouldn't be, take it to a vet immediatly.

It's hard to tell what you mean by shaking.

When guinea pigs are content -- such as when they're on your lap and being petted -- they'll make a noise that sounds like a rumbling/purring and their bodies will kind of vibrate while they're making that sound. It feels almost like you have a little motor on your lap. Some will do this a couple of times while you're holding them, some seem like they just can't stop themselves...especially if the way you're petting their back or scritching behind their ears feels really good. If this sound is what you're hearing, it's a compliment.

If what you're seeing is shakier than this, your guinea pig could be scared or could be cold. Try letting him curl up in a towel while on your lap (or in a fleece cozy sak, a favorite among guinea pigs) and see if he relaxes. You can find some wonderful saks at http://www.cozycavy.com.

Hello!

Could your guinea pig be seriously ill?

My sister recently started keeping guinea pigs. One of hers was always jittery. Even after a few weeks, he would still be uncomfortable with my sister handling him. She notices that he was losing some hair. She took him to the vet, who determined he had cancer and had to be put down. She was devastated! I hope that is not the case with your guinea pig.

Its probally that he is either scared or cold, you should keep a blacket over the cage at night, and make sure there isnt any other big animals around or mirrors where he can see himself :)

GOOD LUCK~~!

Mine do that - I do not believe it has anything to do with fear as my most friendliest guinea pigs do it (who have lived with me for 3+ years). I think they mainly do it when they are cold.
